Rob Blair is a composer, sound designer, producer, and recording engineer. He has a Master’s of Music in Commercial and Electronic Music from Western Carolina University where he studied with Dr. Bruce Frazier and Dr. Damon Sink. At WCU, Rob concentrated on music composition and performance through sequenced virtual instruments. He has produced music for short films, promotional spots, digital animation, and documentaries, and his work is known for its convincing and musical performances using sampled instrumentation.
During his studies, Rob produced a major collaborative student project for UNC-TV -- students composed, performed, recorded, and edited music for a documentary aired on UNC-TV’s North Carolina Now. Produced and coordinated by Rob Blair, this project was universally praised as the most well-planned and executed collaboration in recent years. His skills were valuable on the Black, White, and Blue post-production team where, in addition to foley artist and sound designer, Rob served as a project manager. He has also engineered and produced EPs and demos for local performing groups and artists.
Rob’s musical background includes a Bachelor of Science in Music Education. As a graduate student, Rob was regularly applied to teaching roles within the classroom and the studio, and was regularly sought for his knowledge and expertise with the recording studio and virtual instruments. His contributions as a teacher and mentor were regularly recognized and earned him the 2014 WCU School of Music’s Outstanding Graduate Student Award.
